He is MBBS, MBA, is an Assistant Neuroscientist at McLean Hospital and an Instructor in Psychiatry at Harvard Medical School. He also holds appointment as Assistant Professor (adjunct) of Public Mental Health and Behavioral Sciences at Khyber Medical University, Peshawar, Pakistan. With a background in working with the Red Cross and UNICEF in conflict zones, Dr. Khan developed a keen interest in PTSD and the neurobiology of traumatic stress, leading him to pursue post-doctoral research at Brigham and Women’s Hospital, Boston. Since 2012, he has been part of McLean’s Developmental Biopsychiatry Research Program, focusing on the impact of childhood adversity and other psychosocial determinants, such as poverty and lack of education, on mental health. His research integrates clinical epidemiology, psychometrics, and machine learning to identify critical periods of vulnerability for developing mental health disorders. Dr. Khan also leads global mental health initiatives, notably in Pakistan, where he is country lead of multiple research studies and continues to collaborate with local institutions to bridge the mental health treatment gap. He is a Fellow of the Royal Society for Public Health and a member of the American College of Healthcare Executives.
